Mediation Services

What is divorce mediation?
Mediation is a process by which couples come together, with the aid of a Mediator, and sort through all the issues related to terminating a marriage. These issues may include child custody and visitation, property division, debt resolution, and communication patterns once the divorce is final. With the mediator's help, couples work through all the concerns so the parties can get through the divorce with dignity and a sense of ownership in the process.

Who does the mediator work for?
As Mediators, we do not represent either party. We represent the overall effort to work together to reach a marital settlement agreement. Together, we will develop a written agreement that both parties can submit to their attorneys to review and file with Family Court. With our experience of dealing with extensive family conflict, we will help you make progress with your issues and help you cut through the emotional barriers that often interfere with a successful marital settlement.

Why choose to mediate?
Mediation helps a couple to resolve issues and find practical, fair solutions that work for both of them. Research shows that such agreements are usually fulfilled and couples in general feel in control of their own lives.  Divorce mediation offers an opportunity for the parties to avoid the adversarial proceedings of Family Court and take an active role in establishing the future direction of their family.  This process saves time and money and offers protection for each party as well as for the children involved.
